Directions
Travelling out of Lincoln towards Grantham on the A607, you will see a sign
for Coleby with a row of semi detached red brick houses on the left. Continue
along the A607 and take the second turning on the right. This is
Dovecote Lane. Continue along Dovecote Lane to the very end. Tempest Cottage
is on the left hand side.
Travelling along the A1 take the turning for the A46 towards Lincoln until you see the turning signposted to Auburn and Thorpe on the Hill. Follow the signs to Auburn and drive straight through the village towards Harmston. Drive through Harmston village until you come to a T-junction with traffic lights. Turn right. You will now be travelling away from Lincoln towards Grantham on the A607. You will see a sign for Coleby with a row of semi detached red brick houses on the left. About Coleby
Coleby is a small rural hamlet in Lincolnshire, just
west of the Roman Ermine Street and is approximately 7 miles from Lincoln,
with a population of approximately 600 residents. It is an attractive stone
village that enjoys a dramatic setting high on the Lincoln cliff escarpment,
with commanding views over the Trent Valley. The village is a documented
settlement in the Doomsday Book of 1086. It has a church of Anglo Saxon foundations,
but now mainly Norman with 15C alterations. It also has a Hall of 17C date
with a noted Jacobean South front and an 18C Garden Temple of Romulus and
Remus by Sir William Chambers. There are two independent village pubs, The
Tempest Arms and The Bell, both with restaurants.
There is a Primary School and Village Hall. Coleby remains unspoilt as it has not been subjected to any large scale developments and the village is protected by Conservation status.
